Why Do I Find it So Hard to Say, "Merry Christmas"?
With all the talk of the “War Against Christmas,” I found it easy to toss a few words of my own against any corporate policy prohibiting employees from expressing their own Christmas greetings.
In addition, I’ve also tried to make a concerted effort to wish a “Merry Christmas” to store employees in person and customer service representatives over the phone. Oddly enough, I find this simple gesture to be difficult.
“Thank you” is easy. I do it all the time. To the bank teller. To the grocery store check-out clerk. Even to the person who wanders the store, looking for people to help. I find it so easy I often thank them before they can thank me for my business.
So, why is it so hard to simply tack on a “Merry Christmas”?
“Thank you and Merry Christmas.” That sure doesn’t seem difficult.
Am I the only one having this problem?

Last night and earlier today I missed a few perfect opportunities. But this afternoon, a big thanks and Merry Christmas to a Salvation Army bell ringer. It helps to have a youngun with who freely shows Christmas spirit to anyone and everyone. ;)
