Mark and the Others

Mark’s funeral was today. A beautiful service. More like a regular service that just happened to have a casket up front.

I wish I had a copy of the sermon. In a nutshell, Mark played the part of Isaiah in Isaiah 6:1-9. His life wasn’t spot free, and yet when there was a task to be done, Mark looked around at the various people he thought to be more qualified at the task than him. Yet, none of these more qualified people stepped up to the plate. And so, Mark said “Here am I! Send me.”

As I remember the eleven people’s funerals I have attended as of today, I have to say I am only confident that two, maybe three, of these people have gone Home. Mark is one of those.

The other eight or nine? I hope I’m wrong, but I don’t think they are enjoying where they are now. I don’t say this to be judgemental. In fact, I see myself more in this group. I simply do not deserve heaven’s reward. My only hope is Christ.

If today is your day, where would you be headed? Are you sure?
